Orson Scott Card and Chick Fil A

I've had a lot of soul searching to do recently, because I like Ender's Game, but I hate homophobia. So here's my reasoning as to why I won't buy from Chick Fil A, but I will probably read Card's books, and maybe even see the movie.

 On Chick Fil A:

 1. I don't eat chicken (or pork, or beef, or turkey, or duck, etc.) anyway.

 2. It's a large corporation. I'm iffy on those already.

 On Card:

I only have one point to make about this, and that is that an artist's politics shouldn't affect how you see his art. Ezra Pound was an anti-Semite.

To expand a little: I'm also a big fan of Winston Churchill. He's just as quotable as Oscar Wilde. But he was also opposed to self-determination for India after World War II. (He had his reasons, but that's not what this blog is about.)

And for my Protestant friends and family, Martin Luther was also an anti-Semite.

There are lots of people out there that we can admire for one thing, and deplore for another. I may even be one of those people to some of you.

I could go on, but I hope this suffices to make my point.
