So, I'm watching Daredevil, I made it to Season 2, and I can't stop posting on Facebook and Twitter about it. Here's some more depth to my thoughts:
1. The acting is great. Nobody phones it in. Which leads into:
2. The Punisher. This is a Punisher with depth, but no soppiness. I don't know where they found the actor who played him, but it's a gold mine. And the way they reveal his origin is perfection.
Now my problem:
3. Electra. She just doesn't grab me. While I have no issues with the actress, the character itself is annoying. The reason Christian Bale's Batman worked was that obnoxious playboy was just a cover. (Not commenting on Batfleck because I haven't seen BvS yet.) Electra is obnoxious all the time. She comes off as spoiled and shallow in all her personas. After watching real tear-jerking scenes with the Punisher, watching her flirt and frolic around Daredevil feels like punishment. (No pun intended.)
And then I get to Eppy 8, and in the middle of an Electra scene I'm about to skip, Stick shows up. Now, Stick is interesting. What am I gonna do?
I feel like I've just been told I can have a cake all to myself, if I walk through a cloud of wasps to get it. I'm not sure I should even bother with the rest of the season.
Thoughts, anyone?
They shouldn't have kept hers and The Punisher's stories so separate. It feels like DD is jumping between realities, and everything with Elektra is a world away from the rest of the cast.
ReplyDeleteThe villain ninja boss guy is super cool, I wish he'd had more dialogue.
I think what it is, is they should have given Electra and Punisher their own seasons, instead of mashing them together. Tonally, they jar, badly. In my mind, I'm seeing a season of Electra, and then the Punisher. Save the big acting guns for the last.
